The Product Design/Mechanical Engineer specializes in creating highly integrated, ruggedized, portable/wearable mechatronic medical devices. The role is to develop mechatronic systems used for the management of diabetes. This includes microfluidic pumps, RF communications, user interfaces, ruggedized packaging, test fixtures and apparatus for supporting product development, verification and transition to manufacturing.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Design/develop/improve the rugged, reliable, cost sensitive, mechatronic medical devices
    • Realize designs using a combination of CAD tools and modeling tools
    • Design plastic, sheet metal, machined, and complex process parts
    • Develop test fixtures, test tools, test plans and produce test reports
    • Evaluate, specify, and select off the shelf components like displays, buttons, fasteners, and annunciators.
    • Mapping detailed hardware requirements to detailed hardware verification plans
    • Execute the verification test plans
    • Hosting periodic design reviews and addressing defects in concert with other functions 
    • Utilize design development process and methods compliant with FDA Design Controls
    • Material selection, color/finish/texture specification, labeling and packaging design
    •  NPI/ATE support and transfer to manufacturing
    • Continue to reduce the COGS from design and process and yield point of view
    • Continue to improve the mechanical system design 

    Must haves we're looking for:

    • Minimum 5+ years of experience in the development of products of similar complexity
    • Experience with medical devices preferred.
    • Start-up company experience is a plus.
    • Experience with drug delivery systems, micro pumps, etc. a plus.
    • Experience presenting technical information with a quality focus to internal as well as external partners.
    • Excellent organization skills and the ability to handle multiple areas of responsibility concurrently.
    • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, exciting environment is a must.
    • Proven knowledge of efficient electrical circuit design and safety standards applied to medical devices.
    • Strong CAD skills required, Solidworks preferred

    Education Requirements:

    • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent.
    • M.S. degree, preferred.
    • Equivalent combination of experience and education.
